Tom Shaner is a New York City based songwriter, producer, performer, screenwriter and video director.
He describes his music as “ghost songs, waltzes and rock & roll.” Ballads, rockers, and more cinematic type songs.
His songs, delivered in a moody baritone are, according to CMJ, “festooned with melodies and lyrical incisiveness.” Somewhere between the Beatles and Leonard Cohen. A sound also rooted in blues and folk, but with many modern influences as well.
Tom plays in the U.S.A. and in Ireland, both with a band and solo.
He has worked often with producer Charles Newman (Mother West). Tom also directs his own music videos (and videos for other artists) which are usually shot by 2-time Emmy winning cinematographer Sam Henriques.
He attended Bard College and then NYU where he studied theater with William H. Macy and David Mamet.
His songs can be heard in various movies and TV shows.
He has also been commissioned to write songs for theater. Tom is currently working on his 7th album.
